Rent a Boat, Find a Fish

Get your fishing off to a great start with a boat rental from Boat Up in Fort Walton Beach. Once you have your boat secured, you’re ready to fish. You simply need to know where the best fishing spots are located.

While fish may be everywhere, you want to be sure and go to the best spots to get a haul. Whether you drop you line near one of the bridges, a shipwreck that serves as an artificial reef or farther out in the Gulf of Mexico, you’re sure to score.

The closest place to Fort Walton Beach is Marler Bridge, which is at the east end of Okaloosa Island. Farther out in Choctawhatchee Bay, you’ll find the Mid-Bay Bridge that crosses the Bay from Niceville to Destin. Scores of fish call the bridge supports home at both bridges.

Bay waters are home to Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Sea Trout and Sheepshead year-round. If you’re proficient with a cast net, the waters hold schools of mullet also. During the summer months, you might get lucky and catch a Tarpon, a game fish that will put up a good fight. Jack Crevalle is also a fun game fish that has been caught near Mid-Bay Bridge.

As you head out of the Bay into the East Pass on your way to the Gulf, you may encounter Pompano, Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel. You may also find Grouper, Cobia, Amberjack and Kingfish on your line. The fish everyone wants, though, is Red Snapper.

Of course, the largest game fish are farther out in the Gulf of Mexico. If you want to venture out, you’ll encounter large game fish that will give you a fishing workout. You may catch Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, or Tuna. You may be lucky enough to score a Sailfish, Marlin or Swordfish. Imagine the fish stories you could tell your friends.

Rent a boat from Boat Up now and start your Destin fishing adventure.

Time for a Spring Fishing Trip

Spring is just around the corner, and you really want to get out on the water. Get off to a great start by renting a boat from Boat Up in Fort Walton Beach. Pack your gear and get going. It’s as easy as that.

The waters of the Gulf of Mexico and Choctawhatchee Bay don’t disappoint when it comes to fishing. Poor fishing in this area is nearly impossible. However, not all fish are in our waters during every season.

You may want to fish for Redfish or Grouper, which are two of the most popular fish. All varieties of Snapper, except for Red Snapper, will be readily available.

Bridges, natural reefs and shipwrecks are some of the best places to drop a line. Mid-Bay Bridge that spans Choctawhatchee Bay is a great fishing spot. Scores of fish call the bridge supports home. If you’re proficient with a cast net, you can pull in a net full of mullet.

If you head out the East Pass from the Bay into the Gulf of Mexico, you may encounter large game fish that will be photo-worthy.

Be sure to check with the folks at Boat Up for updated fishing information, as well as which bait is best to use. They are experienced fishermen and will guide you to a successful fishing trip.

You’ll have a great time and have fish tales to tell your friends when you rent a boat from Boat Up and fish the waters of the Emerald Coast.

Spring Fishing Is On

You may bring in smaller fish than you would when offshore fishing, but inshore fishing offers a lot of fun, as well as good eating.

When fishing inshore, you’ll be in shallow water that is less than 99 feet, which is the determining factor between inshore and offshore. Anything from 99 and deeper is offshore and a different type of fishing.

Inshore may have you fishing in grass flats, whether shallow or deep, or potholes, another great hiding place for fish. You captain will know exactly where to go and what fish are biting when you go out.

Flounder is one of the most popular inshore fish. They’re plentiful, and they taste great on the table. You may also catch a redfish – also good eating.

No matter what, as the old saying goes, there are plenty of fish in the sea, the Gulf or the Bay. Your experienced captain will have all the information you need for a successful trip.

Make your reservation today for some great inshore fishing and some fish on the table.

Book a Fishing Trip for Summeer

You’ve been waiting for summer vacation so you can go fishing. It’s not too early to book a fishing trip with Boat Up. Secure your boat, and you’ll be ready to go when you get to the area.

You may be experienced and know just where to go, or maybe you don’t have a clue. Yet. Either way, Boat Up is the way to go. The friendly staff will help you decide where to fish for the best results. Fish are everywhere in the area, whether inshore or offshore, but some places are better locations than others.

Inshore waters of Choctawhatchee Bay are great for Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Sea Trout and Sheepshead. Areas near the bridges, such as Marler Bridge, Mid-Bay Bridge and Brooks Bridge. Grass flats are also great places to catch fish.

Farther out into the Gulf, you may want to fish for bigger catches, such as Grouper, Cobia, Amberjack, Mahi Mahi, etc. If you come in June, you may want to plan your trip around Red Snapper season, which is very short. At this time, no dates have been announced. Typically, the season starts the first week of June and runs through the end of July. This applies to Florida’s state waters in the Gulf of Mexico. Other coastal states may have different dates, so be sure to check Florida’s dates.

Imagine telling your friends what a great catch you reeled in. Plan that vacation fishing trip now and get ready to catch some fish.

Time to Play Catch

You know you loved playing catch as a kid. Now you can play a different type of catch when you rent a boat from Boat Up and go on a fishing trip. Secure your boat now so you can get started catching as soon as you get to the area.

As the saying goes, there are plenty of fish in the sea – or Choctawhatchee Bay and the Gulf of Mexico – so you’re sure to be happy with whatever you haul in.

If you know where to go, you can get going. But if you don’t, no problem. The friendly folks at Boat Up can help you decide on the best places to go whether inshore of farther out in deeper water.

Inshore fishing is great near bridges and in grass flats where fish like to hide, looking for food of their own. Four bridges are easy to get to – Marler Bridge on the Destin end of Okaloosa Island, Brooks Bridge on the Fort Walton Beach side, Mid-Bay Bridge that crosses the Bay from Niceville to Destin and the Clyde Wells Bridge that crosses the Bay from Freeport to South Walton County. The jetties that lead from the Bay into the Gulf are also a good gathering spot for fish.

If you go into the Gulf, check out reef locations for good fishing. Be sure to ask for advice on the best places to go for the best results. Now go play catch and be sure to tell your friends about the great game of catch you had.

Boat Up makes renting a boat easy for your fishing trip. Catching the fish will likely be just as easy this time of year. You can’t ask for more for an enjoyable experience.

If you came for Red Snapper season, it’s in full swing with the longest season in recent history – 45 days. The season runs until July 31, which will give you have plenty of time to catch all you want. There will be an additional 12 days in the fall, so you may want to plan a return trip.

Beyond Red Snapper, many other fish are waiting for you to drop your line – Specks, Redfish, Mingo Snapper, White Snapper and Black Snapper, as well as others. Bridges are a great place to catch your limit, and you have four to choose from – Brooks Bridge near Fort Walton Beach, Marler Bridge near Destin, Mid-Bay Bridge that connects Niceville to Destin, and Clyde Wells Bridge that connects Freeport to South Walton County. Tarpon and Jack Crevalle are known to frequent these waters.

If you decide to head into the Gulf of Mexico, reefs offer the best fishing. You may pull in Amberjack, Barracuda, Mahi, Trigger Fish, or Wahoo. The Gulf and Bay waters offer an almost inexhaustible supply of fish.

Red Snapper season is still on until July 31, so if that’s what you want to hook, rent a boat from Boat Up and get out on the water. You can be part of the state’s longest Red Snapper season and likely have a few to take home.

Once you catch a few this trip, be sure to reserve another boat from Boat Up for a return visit in the fall when the season opens again for 12 days. You can read more about local Red Snapper on the Florida Fish and Wildlife page

You may be fortunate enough to catch other fish that are waiting for you to drop a baited hook. Be sure to head for the local bridges where fish like to gather – Marler Bridge, Brooks Bridge, Mid-Bay Bridge and Clyde Wells Bridge. Fish will also be plentiful around grass flats and other structures.

If you venture out into the Gulf of Mexico, head for artificial reefs for great fishing.

Plan a Fall Fishing Trip Now

This is the perfect time to rent a boat from Boat Up for a fall fishing trip. You know you’ve been waiting for

Fall is upon us. The temperatures are milder, and the breezes are cooler. This is the perfect time to rent a boat from Boat Up for a fall fishing trip. You know you’ve been waiting for this time of year to get out on the water.

Plenty of fish are waiting for you to drop your line in the water, so what are you waiting for? You want to go to the best spots where the most fish gather. Bridges are the best, along with natural or artificial reefs.

For fishing in Choctawhatchee Bay, you can choose from Brooks Bridge, Marler Bridge, Mid-Bay Bridge or the Clyde Wells Bridge. There is some construction underway at the Marler Bridge and Brooks Bridge areas, so check with personnel at Boat Up, and they can advise you.

The Bay offers Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Sea Trout and Sheepshead year-round. You can use a cast net to catch mullet also. Some game fish, such as Tarpon and Jack Crevalle, also frequent these waters.

If the Gulf of Mexico is more to your liking than the Bay, head to one of the reefs for some great fishing. You never know what you may haul in. There’s always the promise of large game fish in the Gulf.
